Read carefully Statistics

Read carefully Statistics
Often a negative response or a sense of community expressed disbelief when reading economic reports announced by the government. For example, a number of observers who reject the agricultural sector growth data reported by the government, the Central Bureau of Statistics, growth above 5 percent.

The reason they reject that figure because many see the reality of rural poverty. So where might they suggest the agricultural sector grew by it. Against this, the Head of Public Relations and Legal Bureau of the Central Bureau of Statistics, M Sairi Hasbullah, give advice, to understand what the meaning behind the economic growth figures, such as the growth rate of agriculture sector, it requires caution and vigilance.

"The increase in economic growth rate at a certain time is not necessarily directly related to the level of public welfare," explains journalist Sairi in the workshop organized by the BPS, in Jakarta, Saturday (26/11/2011). According to him, the public needs to see how the structure of economic growth that occurred.

It should be understood that economic growth, such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP), an accumulation of value-added of each sector of the economy. And, the rate of growth of each sector was contributed by the added value of production factors (inputs), namely labor and capital. Thus the rate of economic growth, ie GDP, generated by a number of calculation stages. Thus, when receiving a statistical data need to be described again in accordance with the formula to find out more clearly.

So, bright Sairi, agricultural sector growth rate is not necessarily going to directly impact on poverty reduction. "Relations between the two variables (growth rate of agriculture sector and poverty reduction) will depend on where the sources of growth that happens," he added.

If the growth is value-added generated by the accumulation of large farmers who have land alone, would have less effect on the level of welfare of farmers undercoat. Therefore, he explained, consumers need to see further data on farmers layers where growth occurred.

"That's why sometimes show economic growth, but poverty and unemployment remained relatively even increase," he said. Therefore, Sairi suggest caution in interpreting the statistics.

MasterCard highlights mobile payments

MasterCard highlights mobile payments
NEW YORK--It's been a long time coming, but the mobile-payment revolution may finally be here.

MasterCard, one of the major credit card issuers eyeing the market for years, is set to launch its service in the U.S. with partner Google. The company is the exclusive credit card issuer for the launch of Google Wallet, a digital-wallet application for Google Android phones.

Google Wallet lets people store credit card information, gift cards, and loyalty cards in a digital format on their phones. And using short range wireless technology known as near field communications, or NFC, it allows people to pay for things with their phones. The Samsung Nexus S on Sprint Nextel will be the first phone to get the Google Wallet application.
MasterCard has worked with other partners outside the U.S. and is already offering mobile payments via cell phones in other parts of the world, including the U.K. and Turkey.

Using its PayPass tap-to-pay system consumers can simply swipe or tap their phones to pay for everything from a Coke in a vending machine to a ride in a New York City taxi to lunch at McDonald's.

At an event in New York City this week, the company showed off some of the capabilities of the Google Wallet, which was announced in May and is expected to launch this fall. And it also showed off some new applications for mobile payments that it hasn't commercialized yet.

With the Google Wallet, MasterCard showed how users could easily open the wallet with a four-digit password, choose which credit card to use, and then tap a vending machine to purchase a Coke. Unfortunately for the demonstrators, the cellular phone network used by the vending machine to authenticate the payment had a weak signal. So the purchase didn't actually go through.

Another demonstration showed how Google Wallet can keep track of spending for consumers. And if a certain predefined limit is hit, it lets the user know.

In addition to the Google Wallet integration, MasterCard showed off how it plans to use QR codes to let people buy things more easily. In one demonstration it showed how a QR code could be shown as part of a home shopping channel to allow people to buy items they see on TV directly from their phones. In another demonstration, a TV commercial broadcast a high-frequency audio code that could be identified by the phone. In each instance, the featured item on the TV appeared on the phone's screen. The shopper was then given the opportunity to pay for the item or save it in a shopping cart.

MasterCard also showed how QR codes could be used on posters in retail locations or in other public places to let consumers buy goods on the spot. The company used a poster advertising a concert to demonstrate. A user could scan the QR or tap the phone to an NFC receiver to get access to a page where tickets to the concert could be bought. Consumers also had the choice of unlocking a video of the band.

And finally, MasterCard showed how a customer using a QR code reader or the NFC capability on a smartphone at a fast-food restaurant could order directly from the phone without standing in line. The code and the NFC receiver were embedded in the table, and the idea was that once patrons ordered and paid for their food, the server could just bring the food directly to the table.

Some of these new applications and features are being tested now in commercial markets, but MasterCard wouldn't say when these new services would be generally available. The hope is that as more smartphones come on the market with NFC embedded and with the ability to read QR codes, mobile payments will become the new way of paying.

Jeremy Hunt calls for web firms to join the drive against piracy

Jeremy Hunt calls for web firms to join t Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt UK delivered a strong speech, urging the network companies, advertisers and credit card companies to sever links with websites that contain links to illegal content.

In a speech to the Royal Television Society, said he wanted to make it more difficult for these sites to thrive.

Ideally, the government would like to see Google remove sites pirates complete their search engine.

But Google's answer suggested that was unlikely.

"Without a warrant, any owner of copyright and can use our transfer process to inform us of copyright infringing content and have it removed from Google search," it said in a statement.
More difficult

Perhaps not enough for Mr. Hunt, who seemed to be on a crusade against piracy.

In his speech, denied blocking access to pirated content was an attack on network neutrality.

"Illegally distributing copyrighted material is theft - and a direct assault on the freedoms and rights of content creators a fair remuneration for their efforts," he said.

"We do not allow certain products sold in stores on Main Street, nor let the stores that was built exclusively to sell counterfeit goods. Just as we should have the right to make it more difficult to access sites that are dedicated the violation of copyright, "he added.

Many of the changes discussed by Mr. Hunt are for the new Communications Act which is expected to become law by the end of this legislature in 2015.

Suggested measures include:
An industry body, perhaps the example of the Internet Watch Foundation, which will be responsible for determining infringement websites which action can be taken
A legal simplification process to enable the courts to act quickly
One of the responsibilities in search engines and Internet service providers to take steps to make it more difficult to access sites that a court has found to contain illegal content or promote the illegal distribution of content
A responsibility of advertisers to take reasonable steps to remove your ads from these sites
One of the responsibilities of the credit card companies and banks to withdraw their services from these sites.

The hope is that new tough measures will sit alongside the already controversial anti-piracy law outlined in the Digital Economy Law (DEA).

The DEA remains in a state of suspended animation since the government expects Parliament to approve changes to it.

For its part, Google said it felt that its current policies to combat piracy was enough.

It operates a demolition process that removes the links identified as infringing copyright. Last year drew three million pieces of its search engine.

The company said it had improved the time of removal, with an average of four hours response. Also set to change your auto-complete tool to eradicate the piracy-related terms.
Expensive nightmare

Jim Killock, executive director of the Open Rights Group, said the proposals to establish a dangerous precedent.

"It's very dangerous to ask the credit card companies or Google to decide who is to blame," he said.

"Once again, Mr. Hunt has listened to the lobbyists and has not made any attempt to resolve the magnitude of the problem. We are back where we met with the DEA, which is proving to be viable and expensive nightmare," said .

Other measures announced in the speech of Mr. Hunt included a promise to establish a new regulatory framework for the newspaper industry.

He said a cross-media approach of regulation is vital, as broadcasters, newspapers and Internet companies developed new products for smart phones, tablet PCs and internet TV.

Following the phone-hacking scandal that the public demands a "robust" solution and asked the industry to reach one.

"Our press freedom has served us very well. So I do not want any change that results in the imposition by the back door of the broadcasting law type of regulation. But if we avoid this, the public will insist on a robust system with independent regulation credible takeover sanction, "he said.

He also spoke about the landscape of broadband. He said the government's ambition to make the UK the best place for broadband in Europe for 2015 was underway. But with countries like Singapore, the introduction of a speed of up to 1 gigabit per second, as a rule, it was not enough.

He said that the plans of other companies to share BT poles and ducts "taking too long" and pledged to speed up the process he drive against piracy

Peyton Manning Injury

Peyton Manning Injury
INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has not been shy about using Twitter to share their thoughts.

Not this time - and certainly not when it comes to the health of their star quarterback.

Hours after a local sports talk radio host Peyton Manning Twitter would require a second surgery on his neck hurt, prompting more speculation about the first day of the state of Manning, Irsay said through his favorite place in the media media.

"There nothing2say on the status of Peyton, unless we move with caution No deliberately projecting beyond day2day, n the healing process of recovery," wrote Irsay.

It was almost as wise as the Colts owner has been in their posts.

In July, used Twitter to announce Irsay Manning signed a five-year, $ 90 million. In August, wrote that he was in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, home to Brett Favre, prompting speculation that Favre was trying to bring out of retirement to be back up Manning. That did not happen. He also announced the signing of 16-year NFL veteran Kerry Collins at the site.

But Irsay's latest publication came amid new reports on the availability of potential swirling Manning for the match of the season Sunday in Houston.

After the original publication, ESPN reported that Manning was expected to see more doctors by slow recovery. Presumably, Manning has been seeing doctors regularly since taking up his new contract on July 30, because team officials have repeatedly said Manning would not be permitted to practice without the consent of doctors.

Manning began training camp on the physically unable to perform list as he continues recovering from surgery to repair a nerve in the neck, although it was seen by journalists running and shooting at the camp.

Sony Reader WiFi ups the bar for eBook Readers by adding a touch screen

Sony Reader WiFi ups the bar for eBook Readers by adding a touch screen
Among the launches of Sony's IFA is one that could put a dent in the dominance of space Kindle eReader - 6-inch Wi-Fi Sony Reader. The new reader comes to only 168 grams, two thirds of the weight of the Kindle WiFi 3 and a number of advantages including faster page turns and smooth (we tried), and a double-sided touch screen for easy zoom.

The touch screen fits well with the form factor and slide a finger to turn the page, or pinching fingers and dissemination to zoom seems much more natural, especially if you have a tablet in your arsenal of gadgets .

You can also hold a word that does not recognize its significance to find and highlight text with a finger.

Comes with two English language dictionaries and ten dictionaries for students of foreign languages.

Unlike the Kindle, it will not bind an online bookstore (Amazon for the Kindle) as the sole supplier of reading material. The Sony Reader store now has over 2.5 million titles, but you can buy elsewhere, and is compatible with the public library e-book lending service that allows you to borrow books from public libraries (11,000 in last count, but only in the UK, USA and Canada at this stage). It is also cheaper and lighter than the model it replaces, but still more expensive U.S. $ 10 the Kindle in the U.S. $ 149.

The battery life of the new WiFi reader is somewhat smaller than the Kindle, and indeed almost all other ereader, but then three weeks with the WiFi is unlikely to pose too many problems unless you are planning a trip galaxies. If you're used to a tablet or a smartphone, any e-book will delight you with its frugal power consumption.

The internal capacity of 2 GB is not much compared to other electronic book readers, but is easily supplemented by the microSD card slot, if you want to supplement your reading with music or photos or audio books, which tend to occupy much more space for electronic books.

The reader of Wi-Fi comes in red, white and black and will be available in the UK, Germany and Austria in October.

Glennon has ups, downs in debut

Glennon has ups, downs in debut
It was not long for North Carolina to call the number Mike Glennon in 43-21 win over Liberty on Saturday.

The first play from scrimmage was designed to Glennon downfield to take a picture. The big junior quarterback, who has waited three years to start again, published a false game running back James Washington and fired a pass down the left receiver TJ Graham.

The problem was the security of Liberty did not bite on play action pass and hit the double cover of Graham.

In his second pass, Glennon threw double coverage, too, more than half to tight end George Bryan. Later, he admitted he was eager Glennon.

"I probably tried to do too much," Glennon said Saturday night after the game.

Much of the attention in the offseason, from North Carolina State finished 9-4 and No. 25 in the country in 2010, has been in the transition to quarterback Russell Wilson, who moved to Wisconsin after a split with coach Tom O'Brien, Glennon.

While Wilson posted spectacular numbers (10-of-13, 255 yards, two touchdowns and a career TD passes of 46 yards) in a 51-17 loss to UNLV on national television Thursday night in Wisconsin, the final numbers Glennon were more modest.

He completed 18 of 31 for 156 yards and a touchdown. He did not throw an interception but was sacked four times.

"We have to help him out, and get better, because it will work on it," said O'Brien in his game after the intervention.

O'Brien said he had passed too soon and not enough attention to the running game.

"You just can not do that. I do not care how good you think your quarterback is," said O'Brien.

Glennon began after 11-for-21 with 97 yards in the first half, the running game became the focus in the second half.

Curtis Underwood rushed for 90 of his best games of 114 yards in the second half, including a 33-yard touchdown. Washington won 42 of his 67 yards in the second half with a run of 19 yards.

"We were a little slow on offense, especially in the first half," said O'Brien. "We came in the second half and said we were going to run the ball, and I think we succeeded."

Glennon debut as a starter was a bit of everything, both good and bad. He hit some good shots over the middle, Jay Smith and Quintin Payton, and showed some mobility. But there were also shots of high, low and a fumble that was forced into a campaign for Freedom Walt Aikens corner and defensive end Francis Bah returned for a touchdown of an advantage for early release (03/07 to 13:30 in the second quarter).

Glennon was more accurate in the second half, with the first state run mentality, and knocked October 7 passes for 59 yards with a touchdown pass from three yards to tight end Mario Carter in the fourth quarter.

As for the overall results, Glennon said he would grade the coaches that the review of the film. He was happy to get the win but was realistic about the challenges of the future, which was led by a defense that caused seven turnovers.

US oil giant tried to cover up spill China paper
BEIJING - One of the most influential newspapers in China on Monday accused U.S. oil giant behind a huge outpouring of the East Coast, trying to cover up the disaster.

The strongly worded article in the People's Daily - Communist Party spokesman - said ConocoPhillips had shown "indifference" to damage the environment and issued misleading statements about the spill.

On Friday, the maritime watchdog ordered the company to stop operations in the Penglai 19-3 oilfield,. Grande and the source of the leak in the Bohai Bay, which has caused popular anger in China

ConocoPhillips, which says that the equivalent of 3,200 barrels spilled into the sea, said on Sunday it was working to end its operations on the field of "safe and timely manner and in a manner that preserves the integrity of operating the field."

A statement on the website of China ConocoPhillips said it was working to complete Monday's close, but a company spokesman said by telephone Monday were not able to confirm if this had been done.

"After repeated delays and a series of cover-ups and deceit, production in the Penglai 19-3 oil field ConocoPhillips has finally been ordered to stop."

Winds fuel flare-ups in Palo Pinto County, across state
Strong north winds fueled fire outbreaks around Possum Kingdom Lake on Sunday and firefighters managed to contain most of them, but the rest of Texas was not so lucky as thousands of acres and hundreds of houses burned in another day of the worst season wildfires in state history.

A forest fire is estimated at 16 miles long, near the suburb of Austin in Bastrop charred about 14,000 acres Sunday, destroyed or damaged about 300 homes.

"It's catastrophic," said Mark Stanford, Fire Chief of the Texas Forest Service on Sunday. "It is a major natural disaster."

"We are reaching out to this point," said Tom Berglund Texas Forest Service on Sunday.

As of Sunday afternoon, firefighters still contained only 75 percent of the fires in Palo Pinto County, estimated to have burned 6555 acres and destroyed 39 homes near the lake on Tuesday.
