UPS Says Access to Website Blocked as ZDNet

UPS Says Access to Website Blocked as ZDNet
United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS), the largest global provider of package delivery, said the company that handles your domain registration was not able to provide access to its website for some customers.

"UPS.com has not been hacked, and no customer data has been compromised," said Susan Rosenberg, a spokeswoman for Atlanta-based UPS said in a statement e-mail yesterday. "A solution is in place, and we expect to resume access to UPS.com to affected customers within a couple of hours."

Access to websites of UPS, the computer maker Acer Inc. (2353), online betting company Betfair Group Plc (BET) and publications, including the recording was interrupted by a court that redirected users to the page beginning of the attacker, reported ZDNet. The websites of Vodafone Group Plc (VOD) and National Geographic were also affected, according to Sophos Ltd., a provider of information security.

Henry Wang, a spokesman for Taipei-based Acer said it was unaware of the situation. Representatives from Newbury, England-based Vodafone, Betfair in London and Washington-based National Geographic Society, did not immediately respond to requests for comments made outside the regular schedule.

The hackers changed the records system called Domain Name without violating their own websites, according to Sophos. Consequently, users were taken to a third party website, the security company.

"DNS records of many websites, including the registry, were hijacked and redirected to a third party website," according to a registry, cited by Sophos. Registration website was not accessible to some users.
