"Although the system is designed to failover to a backup switch, the failover did not work as tested.

"As a result, a large accumulation of data has been generated and are now working to eliminate that backlog and restore normal service as soon as possible."

The accident comes just hours after RIM had issued a statement saying that all services were "operating normally".

Blackout that left millions of users without email, web browsing and BlackBerry Messaging services (BBM) after the accident around 11:00 GMT on October 10.

The cause is believed to be due to problems with the server in RIM Slough data center.

BlackBerry users around the world began reporting problems with their mobile phones mid-morning on 10 October at 14:42 BST, UK Blackberry sent a tweet saying ". Some users in the EMEA region is experiencing problems "

The "problems" left many BlackBerry owners can just text and calls.
"Harsh criticism"

Many corporate clients, said he had not lost the service, suggesting that the problem was with the systems of consumer Blackberry BIS instead of BES systems of the company.

"Blackberry has two facilities," said Simon Butler, a consultant for Microsoft Exchange Sembee.

"The knowledge I have is that the BIS service has crashed.

"The business side is run on a different set of servers, even Blackberrys company can use courier services and consumption, which is also affected," said Butler.

As a major failure will still come as bad news for RIM Blackberry owner, who has been losing market share to rivals smartphone - particularly in the Apple iPhone.

Many corporate clients have changed in the device after Apple made a concerted effort to improve its support to the security of business email systems.

Malik Saadi, principal analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media, said that RIM would have to solve the problem quickly.

"The current situation Blackberry cuts could not come at a worse time for RIM, after some harsh criticism in recent months," he said.

Accidents can result RIM and others to "re-evaluate their dependence on centralized servers, and instead of looking for more corporate investment in servers controlled," he said.

But he thinks that customers will stay with the company despite the current frustrations.

"It will take more than a couple of crashes to persuade loyal consumers Blackberry services to look for alternatives," he said.

Many of those who complain about the accident, said on Twitter that I could not live without access to BBM.
